We all have mental wellbeing. Imagine the possibilities for your life if you knew how to harness your inner resources to support positive mental wellbeing. Would you like to feel less stressed, less anxious, less overwhelmed and more confident, calm and in control of your life? In this episode I asked our Unlocking Possibilities students what their favourite NLP techniques are to support their mental wellbeing. 1. Anchoring is a technique that you can use to harness a powerful resourceful state such as confidence, calm or motivation. We all have off days where we struggle to get motivated, be productive or feel good. NLP states that 'we all have the resources we need or we can create them. Anchoring is a powerful tool for change. 2. Reframing is a way of thinking about things form a different perspective so that you have more choice in how you think, feel and respond to a situation. It's like looking through the world with a different lense and seeing things in a different way, to help you solve problems, navigate challenges, and change the way you behave. 3. Managing your state - Sometimes you might find yourself stuck in anxiety, worry, fear, overwhelm or sadness. NLP shows you how to change your state so you can think, feel and behave in the way that you want to. You get good at what you practice. Practice calm and you will be more calm. Did you know that the way you move your eyes gives you information about how you are thinking about and processing your experience? In NLP we call this eye patterns and cues. I like to call it eye clues. Sometimes we get stuck in overthinking with the negative committee shouting loudly and telling you off. Or you might be thinking in pictures imagining a horror movie in your mind of something going terribly wrong, or remembering a past experience that caused you to be upset. You might be stuck in an emotional funk that you struggle to get out of when you’re in it. The good news is that you can change how you are processing information by the way you move your eyes. You can learn to notice what you are doing on the inside that is causing you to feel stuck. With this self awareness you can move your eyes and intentionally create a new internal experience! When you change what you do on the inside, how you experience the world on the outside changes. It’s incredibly empowering knowing that you can change how you feel in an instant. In this episode I explore some of the myths about what NLP is and isn't specifically focussing on the perception that some people might have about it being something that is always about being happy. Life can throw some big curve balls and challenges that can be really difficult to navigate. Sometimes we might feel side swiped by something that happens and it might take us some time to re centre, recalibrate and feel ok again. NLP is not about ignoring difficult emotions and feelings or pretending that you are ok when you are not. It is about helping you to experience all of your emotions, feelings, thoughts and sensations as a human being having a human experience. It supports you in having more CHOICE about how you interpret what happens to you and making decisions about how you respond. You get to choose how you think and feel so that you can respond in a way that supports a healthy and fulfilled life. NLP teaches you self awareness and greater insight into how you operate. When you know how you operate you can change what isn't working for you. In essence NLP teaches you how to enhance states of being that make you feel better and minimise the ones that keep you feeling stuck, powerless and not feeling good. Once you learn to master yourself then you can navigate the challenges of life with more ease and grace and nourish yourself in the process. Want to know more?
