Ep.5 Special Episode for High School Athletes Headed to University or College to Play a Sport
Manage episode 334562321 series 3360528
Each year, across the nation, a select group of student-athletes pack up their things and journey toward the next phase of their athletic lives; college pre-season training. It's been estimated that about 1 in 57 high school athletes will have the opportunity to play at an NCAA Division 1 program. That's about 2%., Only ab out 7% will have the opportunity to play a varsity, non-intramural sport in college. Those are about 1 in 13 odds. Slightly better, this number offers a clearer picture of how few student-athletes will have the opportunity to pursue athletics after high school.
Transitioning through the levels requires adjusting to change. One of the biggest changes athletes will face jumping from high school to college is meeting the high standards set forth by the university and its sports program. Establishing new behaviors and eliminating the old. Letting go of ways of doing things to learn new ways. Adjusting to different coaches approaches, teammates, systems and operations, offenses and defenses are merely a few of the things they'll endure. Competition is intense, and in many cases, the environment is designed to push each athlete out of their comfort zone regardless of their performance level. Quite frankly, the cream will rise to the top.
It's easy for freshmen, newbies or rookies to lose their way, or lose sight of the fact that through their hard work and effort they earned an opportunity to perform alongside some of the best athletes in college sports.
