I had an interesting discussion with a guy who was only building his business because he thought he was "supposed" to build this business. He signed up for a program that told him how to do it "right." Instead of inquiring what he really wanted, the guru encouraged him to want what the guru is currently building. But the guru conveniently forgot to ask the student what he really wanted in life and business, and why. Sadly, the guru just encouraged him to follow his approach as the only way. This student never asked himself the simple questions, "What do I really want and why?" The comparison or coercion trap is a powerful tool to get you out of your authentic path.
The primary elements of this episode are:

  1. There are 8 billion people on the planet, and not everyone wants the same things. I'd even say that if we are all being true to ourselves, we'd all want 8 billion different lifestyles and circumstances.
  2. Humans are creatures of conditioning, and it's easy to succumb to the comparison or coercion traps when goal setting, vision casting, or creating our life and business.
  3. Take time to understand what you really want, and why. If anything you want is based on insecurity, inadequacy, or insignificance, fix those internal conflicts first. Then you'll discover what you really want, and you won't be coerced to want something just because someone else does.
