I was praised for being so responsible for my age. Hardworking like no other. As a child, I heard people saying, "Arin is such an outstanding worker." As a result of this praise, as well as the normal conditioning of society that says you have to produce, I worked harder to earn praise. I burned out and neglected my body.
There's a lot of talk about women having to look good. They need to take care of their husbands and kids. To prove their worth in society, they have to be a great mother, a great friend, and have a powerful career. This societal pressure was compounded by a natural aspect of my personality, where I like to get things done. As I had to be "doing" all the time, I didn't give myself permission to slow down and rest.
This love letter will give you hope. The peace of mind that comes with knowing it is safe to rest. You are free to be yourself. Putting yourself first is safe. It's time to slow down and appreciate the beauty in this world we're missing by running from appointment to appointment.
Let's put an end to hustle culture. Let's stop thinking we have to produce to be a value and start seeing the beauty around us. Let's just be here, right now, in our body, in our environment, and let healing happen.
