Every human will experience some sort of trauma and trigger as a result, in their lifetime. I want us to understand triggers better, so we can help ourselves and each other through them better. This to me sounds better than us all reacting to our triggers for the rest of time, making things harder on ourselves and others.
I'm going through a traumatic experience right now and grieving more than one thing. Things are a trigger to me (certain songs, words, memories etc) that weren't in the first few months of this year because life was going in a way that made me feel happy and more importantly, safe. I decided today we'd have a chat about how our brain works when we feel triggered, and share a few ways I'm actively working to understand my triggers better so I can put forth the effort to respond to them more than I react.
We can't avoid our triggers altogether, but we can try different tools/resources to understand them better so we don't spend our whole lives reacting to every single one of them and letting those experiences that triggered us win.
If anything I say or share in this episode resonates with you, please don't hesitate to message me on Instagram (@thisiskaitey is my handle) so we can connect more! If you know someone who needs to hear any part of this episode, share it on social media and tag me so I can thank you for helping get the word out about Triumph After Trauma!
