Manage episode 331970706 series 3363144
Welcome to the fourth episode of The Listening Way. In this episode, Dusk is joined by Sue-Anne Hunter.
Sue-Anne Hunter is a proud Wurundjeri and Ngurai Illum Wurrung woman, committed to self-determination and advocating for the rights of all First Nations peoples. Prior to the establishment of her business, Aboriginal Cultural Consultancy in 2019, Sue-Anne worked in the Aboriginal Child and Family Welfare field for over 18 years and has been appointed director on several boards.
On the 14th of May 2021 Sue-Anne was appointed to the Yoo-rrook Justice Commission as 1 of 5 Commissioners. Yoo-rrook has been established as an independent Royal Commission under the Inquiries Act 2014. It will focus on truth-telling and healing for First Peoples, by inquiring into historic and ongoing systemic injustices perpetrated against First Peoples in Victoria by State and non-State entities since colonisation until today. Yoo-rrook is the first Aboriginal truth-telling body to be established in Australia.
In the episode we discover:
- Learning how to ‘just be’
- The link between listening and therapy
- Creating a space of safety in listening
- What is the role of honesty in listening?
- Trauma isn't a competition
- How to listen to tough stories
- Working through racism in Australia
As well as two powerful listening questions from Sue-Anne:
- Do you want to tell me how that felt for you?
- What do you want me to take from that?
Thank you for listening!
The Listening Way is a love letter to listening. It holds contemplative conversations on how listening shapes our way of being in the world. The podcast uncovers the different ways that we listen and invites us to practice them again. Hosted by Dusk Liney from The Listening Squad, where we dream of a listening revolution where every person is heard.
Let’s reclaim the lost art of listening.
