There’s this romanticized idea that other people should just know what we want and read our minds. We think that’s better in some way than making direct requests, negotiating for more of what we want, or setting and honoring boundaries. However, it is not other people’s jobs to mind-read. And refusing to use your words is creating a ton of unnecessary suffering.
