"The essence of government is control. People may submit to being controlled as a result of conquest, or they may voluntarily give up some of their freedom in exchange for protection. Either way, a small number of people are given power to exert authority over the rest of the population. This is a dopamine activity. Although the threat of hear and now, violence is used to enforce the law, most people never experienced it. They submit to ideas, not physical force.

Distance, insulates politicians from the immediate consequences of their decisions. They do not put themselves in your shoes, they push buttons from afar.
