On this, the 10th episode of Season 2 of the Successful Healthcare Working Mother Podcast, I’m diving into a BIG topic: “Coping with Mom Burnout”. While all mothers are at risk for burnout, healthcare working mothers are at especially high risk. They often burn the candle at both ends, giving of themselves at work & at home, leaving them prone to self-sacrifice, fatigue, resentment, frustration, negative coping mechanisms including nutritional compromise (over/under eating), binge spending, doom scrolling, excessive spending, drug and alcohol use, possible abuse, relationship strain and more.

This episode begins by addressing the following questions:

· What is mom burnout?
· Why does burnout happen?

This episode also includes the following:

Main Points:

- Recognizing and Accepting Burnout
- Doing the Mindset Work
- Working Through the Shame

Actionable Steps:

- Daily Self Check-Ins
- Let Go of Perfectionism
- Seek Support
- Reframe Your Thoughts
- Practice Gratitude
- Set Boundaries
- Acknowledge the Shame
- Challenge the Shame
- Replace Shame with Compassion

By concentrating on these areas, you can arm yourself with the knowledge to effectively battle burnout, allowing you to be more present and energized for both your family and your work. Remember, this journey is about progress, not perfection. As you take these steps, think of yourself as the caregiver for someone very important—yourself. Offer yourself the same grace, encouragement, and praise you would give to a friend.
