Last week we kicked off the podcast series, "You Tried it, Here's Why it Didn't Work" with an episode about why therapy may not have helped you with your emotional eating, binge eating, or other eating concerns.
And we're continuing that series today with an episode on Intuitive Eating (IE).
Briefly, IE is an anti-diet approach to food that helps you work toward making peace with food, freeing yourself from dieting, and developing body respect. There are ten principles that work together to achieve those goals. Intuitive Eating believes in never dieting, respecting your body as it is, moving in ways your body enjoys, and including all foods in your eating patterns.
First of all, I LOVE IE. I wholeheartedly believe that it's the best way to approach food and your body. I practice it myself and I teach it to my clients.
But.....
I also know that lots of people try it and don't have success, which honestly makes a lot of sense to me. I think there are various reasons why that is, and we're talking about them on this week's podcast. We go into detail about eight reasons why IE may not have worked for you, if you've tried it. Some of these reasons are:
- Intuitive Eating is hard. (And we talk all about why that is.)
- You may have gone too far, too fast.
- You may not have had enough support.
- It may have been too hard to let go of the idea of weight loss.
I flesh out all of those reasons as well as four more take a listen!
