There’s two kinds of people when it comes to holidays.
Those who are more than happy to spend two straight weeks napping by the pool, and those who struggle with suddenly not having something to do.
Osher is most definitely in the latter cohort.
In this episode he shares how over time, he’s had to learn a lot about what to do when he’s not working. Mostly because when he goes too hard in either direction (work or play) - it’s not a good time for me or anyone.

Have you ever wanted more clarity around how your brain works? Often, it can be knowledge that can mean the difference between having the perspective and tools to make changes in your life, or not. There are countless books on the subject, but here, Osher details 7 that have been instrumental to his own life, that have helped his own clarity on the inner workings of our minds - in other words, the books he thinks about (and recommends) when he thinks about thinking. For more, links to those books are here: 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 Check out (and pre-order) Osher's upcoming book here Scope out Chris Ryan's upcoming comedy shows here Have thoughts? Merrick Watts is a comedian, radio and TV personality, actor, event and festival manager, highly certified sommelier, parent, fitness nut, SAS Australia selection-passer, entrepreneur and drink developer. And he has a jet-ski license. So if you wanted to talk to someone who can tell you exactly what it takes to balance your commitments and still go after your passions and curiosities, and to get a good dose of inspiration and wisdom while you do it, Merrick's your guy. It's exactly what he talks to Osher about in this episode, along with how to find drive, where to really place your effort, the place of sacrifice, what he hopes to instill in his children, his thoughts on service, leadership and bravery both in the media and outside of it, and how he came to launch a drink based on a 2000 year old recipe... When it came to writing a second book, Osher hadn’t lived enough since the extra bits were added to the second edition of his memoir to write another memoir based on only five years. Instead, he wrote the book he wished he had during times when his mental health wasn’t doing well. It’s the kind of book one grabs when they’ve tried everything else but still feel stuck, or they’re trying to understand how someone they care about keeps going in circles, and things seem to be getting worse. It’s specifically written for people who aren’t used to asking for help or are concerned that asking for help might impact them negatively. To ensure the book is as powerful as possible, Osher worked with an eminent Australian psychologist to make sure all the messages and techniques are legitimate. Some of the content is quite complicated, so to make things easier to understand, he wanted to use illustrations. While Osher isn’t bad at sketching, he isn’t an artist. There was only one artist Osher wanted to work with, someone who could understand what he was trying to do and who would get the concepts he wanted to put on the page. That person is the legendary Campbell Walker aka @struthless69 , who joins us today. Pre-order “So What? Now What?” here , be sure to screenshot your proof of purchase and email sendosheremail@gmail.com to get your free thank you gift. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.…

In a job where stress, trauma and the unexpected greet you everyday, with lives on the line, how do you cope? Sally Gould, author of 'Frog: the secret diary of a paramedic' gives Osher the answers - including what she always does and says to stay calm and control a room, how she debriefs and deals with trauma, why humour is essential, and the 'magical' things that have made her fall in love with what she does. When that person up ahead in the right turn only lane puts their blinker on way too late and starts to merge across the solid line towards your lane, what are your thoughts about that person? When you you distinctly recall asking your partner to empty the recycling bin yesterday, and now it’s a jenga pile of jam jars and plastic packets - what are your thoughts about that person? Just to speculate, they’re not positive thoughts are they? However - do you realise that what’s happening there with your judgment about the other person is one of the core thinking biases which can destroy relationships, and lead to unnecessary, possibly dangerous conflict with strangers? Luckily it’s one of those things that once you know it’s there, you can actively start to work at it - and in this episode Osher talks about identifying and dealing with this trap of thinking which often sits at the core of all relationship discontent. Marlee Silva has achieved some incredible things - and some of the biggest lessons and inspirations in her life have come from directly from the NRL itself. In this episode, Marlee reveals those key lessons, as well as talking about role models and mentoring, the mindsets that have led to her success, why there's nothing like State of Origin, how both the women and men's NRL games have changed - and how they can change us too. When you look at Australian politics, you’ll know that preference deals play a big role in who eventually ends up in power. But preferences can put you in a powerful position too. In this episode Osher talks about how you can make a preference deal with yourself to win a better day today - particularly if you're feeling terrible about something that 'should' have happened or something you 'could' have done... When we look to someone for answers, 'I don't know' is maybe the last thing we want to hear. But it could be one of the best things a leader can say - a gateway to honesty, curiosity, and flexibility, to a bigger picture, to much better decisions, and to a revolutionary process called 'blindspotting'. Renowned leadership and management thought leader and author Dr Kristin Ferguson leads Osher through this process, with examples of just how much it can change our business and personal lives. Osher talks about what it’s like to host the Real Housewives Of Sydney Reunion. The short version is: it’s intense. How intense? Well, arguably one of the most emotional gigs of his TV career, leading to one of the most fascinating physical reactions he’s ever had from doing his job. This is what you need to know to make sense of the election and what it should mean for us all going forward. Nine's chief political editor Charles Croucher unpacks the key elements that decided this election, whether Trump played a role, what the liberal party must learn and what the Albanese government has to take action on He also speaks more broadly about the importance of a strong opposition, the place of kindness in leadership, and just how much the way we get information on politics has changed. Something happened on the other side of that election result which I would really love to talk about. Something which we’ve I’ve noticed missing among all the forensic dissection of how the libs lost this or the greens lost that. There’s a massive, glaring fact which I haven’t seen discussed yet, so I thought I’d put it out there. It’s got to do with what we’re being told we are vs what we actually are. Sometimes it can feel like everything is out of our control - that things happen to us rather than for us or with us . But what if instead of fearing change, we could know that we were ready for it, and that we could harness it deliberately to steer us toward the life we want? This is exactly what this chat between Osher and Andrea Clarke will help you do. Andrea is a work futurist, speaker and author of two books: 'Futurefit: how to stay relevant and competitive in the future of work' , and her latest ' Adapt: mastering change in four steps' Here, through practical tips and tools and in the example of her own remarkable career, Andrea show us how to look for signals that change is coming (or needs to come), how we can have agency no matter what life throws at us and the possibilities being adaptable opens for us.
