Effective Strategies to Use During Power Struggles with Kids
Manage episode 451263428 series 2568118
What happens when you choose not to engage in a fight with your child? Can you handle a power struggle with your child without losing your temper? We all want to navigate those heated moments with grace, empathy, and understanding, even when your child is completely offline.
In this episode, I discuss the multifaceted approach to maintaining a harmonious parent-child relationship, even amidst conflicts. We'll explore how stepping back, listening actively, and regulating our own emotions can turn potential blowouts into opportunities for deeper connection and understanding. Drawing from some of my personal insights, I hope to show you that while holding our ground is important, doing so from a place of empathy and calm can make all the difference.
In This Episode:
- Why you can't have a one-sided power struggle
- Recognizing the signs your child is offline
- The art of active listening during arguments
- Strategies for your self-regulation
- Using empathy to defuse tension
- Encouraging your child's emotional self-regulation
