How do you respond when life troubles you? “Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with him but had departed from Saul.” — 1 Samuel 18:12 “But all Israel and Judah loved David, for he went out and came in before them.” — 1 Samuel 18:16 “Then Saul said to David, ‘Here is my elder daughter Merab. I will give her to you for a wife. I decided to confess them to you, and you forgave all my sins.” — Psalm 32:5 2. In times of trouble, we can trust in God’s sovereignty. 3. In times of trouble, remember God has zeal for His own glory. “For my name's sake I defer my anger; for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you, that I may not cut you off. Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tried you in the furnace of affliction. For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it, for how should my name be profaned? My glory I will not give to another.” — Isaiah 48:9-11 4. In times of trouble, know that rest is found not in your own understanding; rest is found in trusting the Lord. You will not find rest turning inward. You’ll only find rest when you turn to Him. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.” — Proverbs 3:5–8
