After a brief hiatus from posting Podcast episodes I am back. In this episode I talk about the advice to post "High Value Content" on your social media in order to attract your audience. I am personally guilty of spending many years, going organic methods alone, and posting what I believed was high value content on my Facebook profile, Instagram. In fact, if there is a place to put lengthy content - I have put it there. I published posts on LinkedIn and Medium. I also did a lot of webinars and live video content over my 8 years online. However, the advice to just create content and you will automatically be discovered is rampant and ultimately misleading. And the reason why it doesn't actually work: writing lengthy informative posts is pretty simple: people have short attention spans. Not to mention the fact that ever since Gary Vaynerchuk started telling people to produce massive amounts of content, his influence has led to everyone and their pet cat producing massive amounts of content - and now audiences are being flooded every day with what is supposed to be "high value" but in the end it is just noise. In this video I talk about my switch in 2019 to posting more casually and using memes and shorter posts to get attention. I also talk about where ads come in and how you should be using shorter content pieces to build your audience and longer content pieces to establish your expertise. It isn't that I don't think that high value content doesn't have it's place, it is just that people need a reason to pay attention first. Ever since I switched my own content strategy I have experience a lot more growth on my profiles and I have freed up a lot more time for myself. I have also started selling more of my courses which is awesome because now I am actually being paid for the "value" rather than just putting it up on Facebook and Instagram for Free. A lot has happened since my last episode where I talked about my Riot Girl Rebirth page going viral. After that FB post reached over 1 million people we experienced an incredible surge of traffic on the Riot Girl Rebirth website. At the time the website was a hot mess. There was a "free pin just pay shipping" giveaway that I had been running that was still in place and some of the pins had actually sold. I decided that I needed to take this opportunity and get the Shopify store where we had merchandise up and running. I realized we only had a limited amount of time to take advantage of this free organic traffic so I rebuilt the site overnight. Then, I started setting up some ads to re-target the new people who were engaging with the Facebook page. In all honesty, the first few days were a bust, but over time we started to see progress. Within a week we were actually turning a profit on the store although ad costs were still high. Obviously, there is still a lot of work to be done but after a month we had things fairly stable and broke even, if not made a profit every single day. Since the time of making this video, we have actually had a second surge of interest, and another post reaches over 1 million people. Basically my husband is an Oberlo and Shopify pro helping me out. It is exciting to see my Riot Girl Rebirth project really taking off! It has been quite the ride AND THIS was an unexpected twist to the story. Really all I can say is stay tuned, listen up. Plenty of people WANT to be popular on the internet. However, those who succeed with their ambition to have internet fame have one thing in common. No, they don't have perfect aesthetic or a flawless catalog of content. No, they don't have money or the Illuminati on their side. The reason why some people can build an online fan base and some people cannot, I believe is the community. Community is the essence of all social media mass followings. In this video, I use the examples of Pewdiepie on Youtube and Violet Benson on Instagram ( @daddyissues ) BUT these are just two examples of social media celebrities with massive followings who do not fixate on aesthetic but rather on community. And these social media famous people have immense followings and incredibly loyal audience within niches'. They do not worry about appealing to everyone. They know WHO they are connecting with and they DO NOT obsess over trying to have mass appeal. Now, you may wonder how could YOU also build a social media audience of that size. Well becoming that level of success on social media is like becoming a rockstar in this day and age. It isn't impossible but I also wouldn't bet on it. However, the chances of YOU being able to carve a little piece out for yourself and construct an audience that roots for you and believes in your content, very possible IF you put community first. Community IS the essential component to building your following. It is HOW you can create successful businesses using social media. Create content they said. It will be great they said. But now you post content every day for all of your social media and as far you have seen it isn't paying off! In this video today, we talk about creating a social media marketing and strategy and why, if you produce content ( do content marketing ) you are going to want to begin to try to think more strategically about how your content all works together. One of the most common mistakes that business owners who produce content for marketing purposes make IS NOT having a next step or a plan in place to convert the curiosity that the content generates into a "next step". They struggle, to get any R.O.I from their content marketing because they haven't made it possible ( or easy ) for people to take action after they have got their attention. They may not have a re-marketing plan in place or any longer form, warming content: example: a freebie, to leverage in order to take that relationship further. The consequence of being a constant state of producing content for content sake and being stuck on a treadmill. Lots of hard work, little return, lots of discouragement. My advice. Anticipate what your customer is going to want to do next. Understand the importance of building a relationship when you are the product that you sell. Take the time to include a call to action - and develop a warming sequence of events, to assure long term you set yourself up for success. Get off the content treadmill! Do you feel like you need to come up with something new to post every single day? Are you living for the small engagements such as likes and comments but feel like you aren't getting any big wins. The obsession with producing great micro-content can often distract us from producing quality macro content OR putting in the must-have backend systems that will assure that our content can go to work for us in the future. In this episode of Visibility & Connection I explain the importance of having a functional website or single landing page where you can send people who are curious about what you do and collect their information so that you can speak to them again in the future. I explain how short attention spans on social media create a lot of drive by traffic with potential audiences seeing your stuff, but not interacting with it in a meaningful way because their is no CTA attached to the content. We discuss how you can set yourself up and improve the results you are getting from social media marketing by creating a landing point where new audience members who are curious can be collected. I share the simple way that you can do this and why it is so important not to neglect this step if you want to have longterm success marketing your business online. At the end of the episode, we go over a quick 3 thing checklist that you must have before you start posting more micro content. 1. a functional landing page ( single website page ) that describes who you are, what you do 2. a functioning email opt-in so that if people are curious and want to hear from you they can input their email and you can speak to them again directly via email marketing 3. a website domain / URL that is your "virtual real estate" where you can start to build your S.E.O. Instead of spending all of your time online looking for instant gratification from social media posts make sure that you have that "next step" in place for people who wish to go deeper. Understand that if you want to be able to reach your audience again in the future you will have to have some system outside of social media where you can reach them because the algorithm does not show everything that you post on social to everyone who follows you. Do you produce content every day for social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram? In this video today we talk about why constant micro-content production can be time-consuming and a risky strategy if you are trying to market your business online. Micro-content is the content that you create for your social media platforms to get instant gratification - for instance, you post a link to your new freebie or landing page and get twenty subscribers. Or you create a Facebook live video talking about an upcoming offer and you get a few messages afterward as a response. Many people get caught in the content treadmill and end up focus on posting primarily micro-content without thinking longterm about how to repurpose this content and put it to work later ( evergreen ) the consequence of this is that you have A LOT of content but have to keep producing more and more - because you haven't built the foundation, and are not ranking on keywords, or showing up for people who are looking for your business. The solution: if you find yourself stuck where you are constantly creating micro-content without any end in sight you NEED to start changing your mindset to think about "legacy" and longterm visibility. Unfortunately, Facebook ( and other social media platforms ) don't do much for you as far as visibility and evergreen value from your content. Having a blog, Youtube channel or Podcast are better for establishing a longterm "evergreen" presence for your business because they are more permanent and allow you to establish stronger S.E.O ( search engine optimization ) - if you are strategic about taking your micro-content off of Facebook ( and Instagram ) and the purposing it so that it can be used for your S.E.O in the future you will be much better off. Are you someone who produces content and posts it on Facebook? If you are then you have likely experienced the frustrations that arise when you feel like Facebook is not being fair, or not showing your content to the people who you want to reach. Unfortunately, you aren't alone, many people feel this way - that the content they work hard on, live videos, insightful posts, images etc. don't get reach when they post them on Facebook. However, there is a technical reason that is important to understand and acknowledge. This is the algorithm. The Facebook algorithm determines who sees what on Facebook. It is designed to show Facebook users the content that Facebook feels will be most relevant to them. The way that they do this is by paying attention to the engagements that a post gets when it is initially posted. Each user on Facebook is also part of a "demographic profile" that keeps tracks of their behaviors and the type of content that they are most interested in. The algorithm's priority is to keep people on Facebook longer, so they show the users more of the content that they frequently enjoy. As a content creator, this is important to understand because if Facebook isn't showing your posts to your audience, the reason for this is because they are not engaging with it and your audience is mismatched. Have you been contending with a dead Facebook page? In this episode today I share with you how you can use your Facebook page and why Facebook pages are not actually dead. Many people who have Facebook pages complain about the low reach/priority that Facebook gives to their page content. The reason for this, however, is because of the way the person built their page. FB's algorithm shows posts to people who are most likely to engage within that page's audience. If the page does not have a properly targetted audience on it the page owner will likely have a hard time getting reach because when the posts are shown they don't get any engagement. Another issue with FB pages is the fact that they have "if it is an ad make it an ad" rule. In many cases, if what you post qualifies as "being advertising" FB will sanction you in reach and prompt you to make an ad ( because they don't want to market for you for free. ) - Therefore if you are using a page and are updating your page, you want to make sure what you are posting is CONTENT not advertising. OR if it is advertising, that you use the paid features to target your page audience. Facebook pages are a source of frustration for many business owners on Facebook who have no idea how they should be using them. Low reach frustrates many to the point that they have just given up. However, if you build a "targeted by interest" follower list on your page and post on the topic to what the page like ad has promised YOU CAN get reach and engagement. Thanks for watching/listening. Lately, I have been seeing this trend of Facebook Ads, targeting "spiritual entrepreneurs" ( life coaches, spiritual healers, psychics, etc. ) from "business coaches" making claims about how easy it is to scale spiritual businesses using Facebook Ads. As someone who has been writing advertising funnels and developing campaigns for real-deal spiritual entrepreneurs for several years now, I find a lot of what is being promised a bit outlandish. The reason why i think a lot of spiritual entrepreneurs are becoming business coaches for other spiritual entrepreneurs is the old "those who can not do, teach" - it isn't that there are not awesome business coaches out there who can help spiritual entrepreneurs, it is the claims that they are making in the ads about how quick and easy it can be to grow your spiritual business that I am a bit skeptical of. In this video ( sorry bit long again ) I share my take on this and what i think aspiring spiritual entrepreneurs should be aware of when they take their business online. I talk about some of the false promises being made and give you a realistic sense of what it costs and what it can take to use Facebook Ads to scale a spiritual business. I also explain why MOST spiritual entrepreneurs DO NOT need to use any type of elaborate marketing to grow their business if they are just starting out. I also talk about why this "niche" is particularly vulnerable and how they are being so successfully targeted by these coaches. At the end of the day no matter what type of business niche you are in, you need to be wary of any "coach" that tells you things that sound too good to be true. Often "business coaches" who have Facebook ad funnels are not 100% transparent about how they grew their business or the methods that they have used. Although, great coaches do exist you probably won't find 'em through an ad trap. E12: Some Thoughts on The Netflix Doc "The Great Hack" and The Facebook Data Monster 24:19

Did you watch the Netflix movie "The Great Hack"? This documentary did a great job of breaking down the crimes of Cambridge Analytica and making people aware of the information "propaganda" tactics used by Trump's campaign. However, I do feel like this Netflix documentary definitely also had a "fear-mongering" agenda trying to make people afraid of the "data monster" and make people afraid of the algorithm and the potential for information, and manipulation the social media platforms like Facebook have. Personally, I disagree. For the most part, your data on Facebook is used to show you the content that you are likely to be interested in. I don't buy into the idea that people can be so easily swayed by FB content more so - FB shows you more of the stuff you already agree with and confirms your biases. Typically, when data is being used on FB it is for marketing and matching potential customers up to products that they are likely to be interested in. This incident where FB is being used to put propaganda content in front of people that will alter their opinions is because of Cambridge Analytica and not Facebook. At the end of the day, FB is a tech company. Clearly, there are some issues that need to be fixed and what happened is terrible - ( not understating that ) but I have to ask, do we REALLY need to blame the technology creator or should we look at the intentions of the people who are taking the technology and using it in a way that is ultimately manipulative if not harmful? In this episode today I extend to you a question. What are you doing today to move closer to the things you want tomorrow? How this applies to social media audience building - well, a lot of people start social media projects: Youtube channels, Instagram accounts, Facebook groups "thinking" that they will be able to grow them quickly and then get discouraged when things don't happen overnight. The problem with that mindset is that you are giving up on yourself before you even give it a fair chance. AND if this is how you are thinking you need to remember that anyone you see out there who is "successful" on social media has also started exactly where you are. The difference, between you and them, is when you hit the point where you feel ready to give up and throw in the towel, that person kept going. It isn't really just about social media building though. This idea can be applied to anything in life, personal development wise, business growth-wise. The reality is that if you don't take steps every day to get closer to where you eventually want to be then you are sabotaging yourself and making it impossible to ever get there. When is an appropriate time to start selling to your social media audience? In this video today we talk about the two routes that you may take to make money from your social media audience. Route 1 being to launch a product or service and build a social media audience with that product ready to go - and immediately start selling to the audience at the same time you are building it. Route 2 being to build your audience and establish yourself and then launch to an audience who already knows you and trusts you. We talk about the pros and cons of each option and some of the factors that you should consider before deciding which one is right for you. I share some of my thoughts on selling "high ticket" and why high ticket ( higher price point ) often means higher risk for the buyer and therefore will require you to build more trust. At the end of the day, if you have a product or a service that you would like to start selling to a social media audience, the most important thing is to try different approaches and see what works. There is no downside to actually trying. The purpose of today's video is just to remind you that there are some various factors that need to be considered before you start promoting something to your social media followers. There is a common misconception out there that the fastest route to monetize a product or service online IS to build a following and then market a product to that following. However, for many business owners, social media audience building just adds another layer of complexity to the marketing process. If you get the audience right you can bypass the "follower building/audience building completely and go straight the conversion. For this reason, the collecting of followers and building of audiences usually needs to come from a place of greater consideration. Why do you want your followers? If you are someone who is building a personal brand/movement or has a greater mission then serving an audience through social media may be the way to get the word out about what you do. Have you been frustrated by low engagement rates on the content that you are producing for your marketing? Simply creating MORE CONTENT is not the solution. Many people get caught on the content treadmill, chasing engagements - and thinking the way to increase their visibility through social marketing is just to produce more and more. However, because the content space is saturated ( lots of people are doing this ) AND because this can also be a time consuming activity with low return, the better strategy might be to actually pull back on the amount of content you are creating. In this episode I talk about a client I had, who was "going live on Facebook" every single day. AND because they weren't looking at their insights they never realized that NOBODY ( 12 people out of their 800 person ) Facebook group were seeing their posts. They had been doing this not just for a few weeks but for almost two years!!! And Facebook was not showing their posts to majority of people in their group. I also get into the two ingredients that I personally believe make for a successful social media audience with ongoing growth. Visibility & Connection. I share why you shouldn't worry so much about audience size ( or number of followers ) and why content creation is the easy part.
