The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Now, after a long and sometimes traumatic journey, Michael and Tanya are married, touring, winning all sorts of awards, and set to release their fifth album together, and their fourth as The War and Treaty. Sid talks to Michael and Tanya about the new record, Plus One , as well as their collaboration with Miranda Lambert, what it was like to record at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, and how they’re blending country, soul, gospel, and R&B. It takes faith to serve, to believe in the future. It takes faith to finish til the end, and it also takes faith to entrust that God will be involved.
What is God saying to our situation now? Let us listen and obey because that could be our way to our breakthrough.
Faith means walking with God even when our sight fails us.
As we worship today, let us accept the invitation of Jesus that will change and impact our lives forever.
Our worship declares that our ultimate loyalty and allegiance are to God, His people, and His purposes.
May the Lord grant us the grace to faithfully follow Him today.
Let us make Jesus known through the gospel. God became man in Jesus, who lived and died in our place. Whoever trusts in Him by faith will experience eternal life.
The love of God is truly amazing. God can and wants to save and rescue us now.
Throughout the day, may we encounter Jesus, be led by Jesus, and be empowered by the Holy Spirit.
As we share this love with one another, a spiritual community is built that is founded on the unconditional, sacrificial, self-giving love of and from God.
Let us be messengers of the love and mercy of God to the people around us. May our life be evidence of the faith we live.
Giving generously to the needy is also an act of worship and obedience to the Lord.
We can start and spend today freely worshiping God because of His love for us as shown and shed on the cross through His Son, Jesus Christ.

We receive salvation through the unconditional love demonstrated by Christ on the cross.
