Eventually, they depend more and more on others for help and not just in their activities of daily living, but also in their financial affairs. Ensuring their bills are paid and on time is not only about them having enough money to cover expenses. Very often it is just a matter of memory, and knowing how to navigate the online systems to send in timely payments. As a result, some turn to their health workers for help in the financial space and once they know their financial status, their online passwords, and more, it can become abusive, especially when they know that the family of the elderly does not check in, does not care, or is easily fooled into thinking all is well.
