The sanctity of human life resides in the fact that man was made in the divine image. This sanctity underlies the prohibition of murder, and it validates and necessitates capital punishment for the crime of murder. A close relation exists between the law of God, as it pertains to the preservation and taking of life, and the redemptive provisions of grace.
