Episode 8: The School of Hard Knocks 201

Wednesday, April 17, 2024. In a fallen world, hard knocks are the rule, not the exception, and in today’s podcast, Rob Stout presents the second in a series of shows focusing on overcoming the hard knocks of life. Today, Rob walks through the big question: Now What?

Now What #1: When you get knocked down, REACH OUT. Don’t medicate with isolation, drugs, alcohol, porn, food, or anything else. “Medicate” on God, because *he* is the ultimate medication that your body and soul needs in this moment. And/or, REACH OUT to a fellow man and go through this hard knock with somebody besides yourself.

Now What #2: When a friend gets knocked down, JUMP IN. Be the man who jumps into the pit with other men, and just be there. In this immediate moment, it’s less about diagnosing, diagramming, solving, or preaching, and more just about being there. If there is funny moment, laugh with. If there is a sad moment, cry with. If there is a wry or odd moment, ponder with. Whatever the moment needs, Jump In, and be with.

Now What #3: When you get knocked down, REACH UP. Reaching for an honest relationship with God is not religious Kleenex. Get real with God and take him at his offer – He really does want to be in relationship with you both during the great times on the beach and the painful times in the hospital, in the morgue, in the courtroom, with the pink slip….

Lean into what God says about your hard knock:

“Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trouble… so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” – 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Corinthians%201&version=ESV

“God heals the brokenhearted. He binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%20147&version=ESV.

“I will never leave you or forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews%2013&version=ESV

About Sherpa5280 Personal Coaching for Men

Imagine climbing a mountain and gradually discovering incredible panorama of peaks, lakes, snow drifts, and wildlife. It is as beautiful as it is daunting, because there are slippery footings, large boulders, hungry bob cats, and the air is only getting thinner. You resolve that that you’re not turning back. You are strong, capable, and a self-starter who has been going for it since you were a young boy.

What do you need? Well, you certainly don't need clichés and pity, but tips about hiking gear, crevasses, and generally not dying by someone who has hiked this path before and provides help, guidance, helpful tools, and a shot of good old fashion encouragement – that’s what we all need. You need what all the climbers who have summited the world’s tallest peaks need – a Sherpa.

Welcome to Sherpa5280. The climb we are talking about here is more than climbing a mountain. It's the climb called "your life." Sherpa 5280 brings elite level resources to help you "summit life's climb” of faithfully caring for yourself, caring for your loved ones, caring for your business and community colleagues, and fundamentally caring for yourself.

Whether you are that man, or there is a man in your life who needs resourcing to start the journey or, in some cases, get back on the journey after getting discouraged or sidetracked, let's get back on the trail today.
