What is communion and why is prayer so important?

What is communion with God and where does it come from? Communion is an intimate exchange in thoughts and feelings. To hear the origin of communion we turn to Mark chapter 14. In the evening, Jesus and his twelve disciples sat down for supper. While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks, and broke it. He gave it to his disciples saying, “take it, this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he gave thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it. Jesus then said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant.” Covenant means agreement. Jesus’ death was a new agreement between God and his people. The old agreement was forgiveness of sins through sacrificing an animal. But instead of a spotless lamb, Jesus afford himself, the spotless lamb of God. All people can come to God through Jesus. We celebrate communion as a way to confess our sins And remind us that we are forgiven.
