4月(しがつ)から日本(にほん)では新(あたら)しい学年(がくねん)が始(はじ)まりました。海外(かいがい)の学校(がっこう)では8月(はちがつ)や9月(くがつ)、または2月(にがつ)に新(あたら)しい学年(がくねん)が始(はじ)まったりしますが、日本(にほん)では桜(さくら)の咲(さ)く4月(しがつ)に新(あたら)しい学年(がくねん)が始(はじ)まります。今回(こんかい)は、新(あたら)しい学年(がくねん)のスタートによくある、クラスや担任(たんにん)の先生(せんせい)の発表(はっぴょう)、新(あたら)しいクラスでの人間関係(にんげんかんけい)など、新学期(しんがっき)あるあるのエピソードを集(あつ)めてみました。日本(にほん)では1年間(いちねんかん)同(おな)じクラスメートと過(す)ごしたり、学校(がっこう)の中(なか)で靴(くつ)をぬぐなど、海外(かいがい)とは違(ちが)う文化(ぶんか)や習慣(しゅうかん)があります。なので、特(とく)にクラス発表(はっぴょう)や下駄箱(げたばこ)のエピソードなどは、リスナーの皆(みな)さんにとっては、珍(めずら)しくて興味深(きょうみぶか)いのではないでしょうか。

In April, a new school year begins in Japan. While schools overseas often start new academic years in August, September, or even February, in Japan, the new school year starts in April when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. This episode gathers various typical experiences associated with the start of a new school year, such as announcements of class assignments and homeroom teachers, and navigating relationships in new classes. In Japan, students spend an entire year with the same classmates and remove their shoes inside the school, which are cultural practices different from those abroad. Therefore, stories about class announcements and shoe lockers might be particularly unusual and interesting for our listeners.

日本語（にほんご）は「です・ます」の丁寧形（ていねいけい）以外（いがい）にも会話（かいわ）の普通形（ふつうけい）、ビジネスで使（つか）う尊敬語（そんけいご）など大体（だいたい）大（おお）きく分（わ）けて３つのスタイルがあり、勉強（べんきょう）しているみなさんにとっては本当（ほんとう）に難（むずか）しい言語（げんご）だと思（おも）います。今回（こんかい）、またオーストラリアの高校生（こうこうせい）の使（つか）っている教科書（きょうかしょ）から、普通形（ふつうけい）から敬語（けいご）、敬語（けいご）から普通形（ふつうけい）にする、というドリルがあったので、ネイティブがやるとどうなるかやってみました。特（とく）に普通形（ふつうけい）に関（かん）しては、仲（なか）のいい友達（ともだち）と話（はな）すトーンでやると方言（ほうげん）が出（で）てしまい、メチャクチャになってしまいましたが、愛知（あいち）の人（ひと）はこんな話（はな）し方（かた）をするんだ、と参考（さんこう）にしてください。笑 Japanese has roughly three major styles: the polite desu/masu form, the casual form used in conversation, and honorific language used in business. For learners, it's truly a difficult language to master. This time, I found a drill in a Japanese textbook used by Australian high school students, where you convert from the casual form to the honorific form and vice versa. We tried doing it ourselves as native speakers to see how it would turn out. オーストラリア（おーすとらりあ）の高校生（こうこうせい）が使（つか）っている日本語（にほんご）のテキストの中（なか）に、日本（にほん）の漫画（まんが）文化（ぶんか）を紹介（しょうかい）する読（よ）み物（もの）があったので読（よ）んでみました。その教科書（きょうかしょ）は20年以上（にじゅうねんいじょう）前（まえ）に作（つく）られていて、一番（いちばん）最近（さいきん）改訂（かいてい）されているものでも10年前（じゅうねんまえ）なのでかなり古（ふる）い情報（じょうほう）ですが、それでも漫画（まんが）の発行部数（はっこうぶすう）や「少年（しょうねん）ジャンプ」のことなど興味深（きょうみぶか）い内容（ないよう）が書（か）いてありました。今（いま）はもっと発行（はっこう）されているし、媒体（ばいたい）も変（か）わってきていますが、今（いま）の現状（げんじょう）と比較（ひかく）しながら、日本（にほん）の漫画（まんが）文化（ぶんか）について話（はな）しました。 I read an article in a Japanese textbook used by Australian high school students that introduces Japanese manga culture. This textbook was created over 20 years ago, and even the most recent revision was made 10 years ago, so it contains quite old information. However, it still included interesting content about the circulation numbers of manga and "Shonen Jump." While the circulation has increased and the media have changed since then, I discussed Japanese manga culture by comparing it to the current situation. 大阪(おおさか)から四国(しこく)に引っ越し(ひっこし)た友達(ともだち)と久しぶり(ひさしぶり)に会い(あい)ました。大阪(おおさか)という大都市(だいとし)での子育て(こそだて)に疑問(ぎもん)を感じ(かんじ)て、自然(しぜん)豊か(ゆたか)な四国(しこく)に引っ越し(ひっこし)た友達(ともだち)ですが、どうやら引っ越し(ひっこし)た先(さき)の人間関係(にんげんかんけい)にあまり馴染め(なじめ)なかったようです。人間関係(にんげんかんけい)というよりも、四国(しこく)という島(しま)の土地柄(とちがら)にも関係(かんけい)する人々(ひとびと)の人間性(にんげんせい)に慣れ(なれ)なかったと言い(いい)ました。これは何(なに)も四国(しこく)に限っ(かぎっ)たことではなく、沖縄(おきなわ)や、日本(にほん)自体(じたい)にも言える(いえる)ことだと思い(おもい)ます。島(しま)や田舎(いなか)という閉ざさ(とざさ)れた世界(せかい)から形成(けいせい)される、その土地(とち)の人々(ひとびと)の人間性(にんげんせい)について話し(はなし)てみました。 I met a friend who had moved from Osaka to Shikoku for the first time in a long while. Feeling doubtful about raising children in a big city like Osaka, my friend moved to the nature-rich Shikoku. However, it seems that they had trouble fitting into the social dynamics in their new environment. Rather than just interpersonal relationships, they said they struggled to adapt to the mindset and behaviors of the people there, which were influenced by the unique characteristics of Shikoku as an island. This is not something limited to Shikoku—it can also be said about Okinawa and even Japan as a whole. We talked about the cultural traits shaped by the closed worlds of islands and rural areas. 日本（にほん）では先進国（せんしんこく）の中（なか）でも給料（きゅうりょう）安（やす）いと言（い）われていますが、大学（だいがく）卒業（そつぎょう）した人（ひと）の給料（きゅうりょう）が4月（しがつ）からかなり上（あ）がるというニュースを聞（き）きました。同時（どうじ）に、第（だい）2次（じ）ベビーブーマーの私（わたし）の世代（せだい）は、人口（じんこう）が多（おお）く、大学（だいがく）入学（にゅうがく）も大変（たいへん）で、かつバブル崩壊（ほうかい）直後（ちょくご）で就職（しゅうしょく）も難（むずか）しく、給料（きゅうりょう）も安（やす）いという最悪（さいあく）な時代（じだい）を生（い）きてきたと言（い）われています。確（たし）かに厳（きび）しい時代（じだい）でしたが、振（ふ）り返（かえ）ってみると今（いま）の若（わか）い子（こ）達（たち）の生（い）きている世界（せかい）より、私（わたし）たちが若（わか）かった時代（じだい）の方（ほう）がもっとシンプルで楽（たの）しかったと思（おも）います。今回（こんかい）は30年（さんじゅうねん）前（まえ）の日本（にほん）と今（いま）の日本（にほん）とを比（くら）べて、本当（ほんとう）の幸福（こうふく）とは？ということを考（かんが）えてみました。 In Japan, it is said that salaries are low among developed countries, but I heard news that the salaries of university graduates will increase significantly from April. 10月(じゅうがつ) の終(お) わりに、2 年(ねん) ぶりに大阪(おおさか) に旅行(りょこう) してきました！2 年前(ねんまえ) はまだコロナの影響(えいきょう) も少(すこ)しあり、観光客(かんこうきゃく)も少(すく)なめでしたが、今回は大阪(おおさか)の中心部(ちゅうしんぶ) 、心斎橋(しんさいばし) あたりは観光客(かんこうきゃく) で溢(あふ)れていました。世界中(せかいじゅう) からの観光客(かんこうきゃく)でいっぱいで、大阪弁(おおさかべん)はおろか、日本語(にほんご) すらあまり聞(き) こえてこない状況(じょうきょう) で驚(おどろ) きました。そんな中(なか) でいつも通(どお)り、串カツ(くしかつ) を食(た)べたり、大阪(おおさか) グルメを堪能(たんのう) しましたが、それ以外(いがい) にも今回はアメリカ村(むら) でたくさんのかっこいい古着(ふるぎ) を見(み)つけ、新(あたら) しい大阪(おおさか) の楽し(たの) みを見(み)つけました。大阪(おおさか) に旅行(りょこう) する予定(よてい) のある人(ひと) には役(やく)にたつアドバイスもしていますので、参考(さんこう)にしてください。 At the end of October, I traveled to Osaka for the first time in two years! Two years ago, there was still some impact from COVID-19, and there weren’t many tourists. This time, however, the central area of Osaka, around Shinsaibashi, was overflowing with tourists. It was packed with visitors from all over the world, and I was surprised to hardly hear any Japanese, let alone the Osaka dialect. As usual, I enjoyed some kushikatsu and indulged in Osaka’s famous gourmet foods. But this time, I also discovered a new side of Osaka by finding lots of cool vintage clothes in Ame-Mura (America Village). マレーシア生活（せいかつ）２週間（にしゅうかん）が経（た）ちました。初（はじ）めの１週間（いっしゅうかん）は生活（せいかつ）に慣（な）れるのが精一杯（せいいっぱい）で、なかなかクアラルンプールを楽し（たの）めず、ポッドキャストでもあまりポジティブな報告（ほうこく）ができなかった私（わたし）たちですが、１週目（いっしゅうめ）と違（ちが）って２週目（にしゅうめ）は、少（すこ）しこちらの生活（せいかつ）にも慣（な）れて、二人（ふたり）とも前向（まえむ）きなことが言（い）えるようになりました。とらくんはバドミントンを通（つう）じて学校（がっこう）でも友達（ともだち）ができ、学校（がっこう）が楽（たの）しくなったようです。私（わたし）もジムのスタッフと仲良（なかよ）くなったりで、趣味（しゅみ）を持（も）つことが海外生活（かいがいせいかつ）でとても重要（じゅうよう）なんだなということに気（き）づきました。１週目（いっしゅうめ）と違（ちが）ってだいぶ前向（まえむ）きになった私（わたし）たちの生活（せいかつ）を聞（き）いてください。 It has been two weeks since we started living in Malaysia. In the first week, we were so focused on getting used to life here that we couldn’t really enjoy Kuala Lumpur, and we weren’t able to share many positive updates in the podcast. However, unlike the first week, by the second week, we’ve gotten a bit more accustomed to life here, and both of us can now speak more positively. Tora has made friends at school through badminton, and it seems like he’s started to enjoy school. I’ve also become friends with the gym staff, which made me realize how important it is to have hobbies when living abroad.
