Manage episode 445798527 series 3507182
Ezekiel 18:20 –“The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the father’s iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the son’s iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself; and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself.”
Exodus 20:5,6 & Deuteronomy 5: 9,10 – God says about idol worship: You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, visiting the iniquity of the father on the children, on the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing loving kindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.”
Please note that the 1st part is in English, and the 2nd part is in Malayalam starting at 14:36 mark.
These verses seem like contradictory, but when we go deep into it and try to understand it, the meaning will be clear. People have the tendency to blame every problem on some sort of generational curse. This is not biblical. According to the Old Testament Law, God visited iniquities on future generations for the specific sin of idolatry. When Israel turned from idols to serve the Living God, the curse was broken and God blessed them. When a person sins against God, God will double check on three to four generations to make sure if anyone repeats that sin. If that sin is repeated, they will be punished. The four generations will not be aware of the sins of the forefathers. That is why every person should repent about own sins, pray for forgiving the ancestors, follow the commandments of God and lead a clean life always. Personal stories of punishment on children for parents’ iniquities as well as for their own iniquities against parents, due to lack of repentance are shared.
