During this School Board meeting, several updates and initiatives were discussed:
1. Incorporating Local History in the Curriculum:
FCCPS highlighted its ongoing efforts to bring local history into the classroom through the Inclusive Local History Curriculum. This initiative, started in 2022, emphasizes teaching students about influential local figures and landmarks, such as Tinner Hill, to foster a sense of community and empowerment.
2. Strategic Plan Update:
The third year of the FCCPS Strategic Plan will focus on enhancing Communication & Engagement and IB Teaching and Learning. A key goal is to make the International Baccalaureate program more accessible and understandable for all stakeholders. Additionally, the new Parent Hub and updated communication strategies will improve access to information for families.
3. One-Time Funding Priorities:
The Board continued discussions on how to allocate one-time funds for non-recurring projects. Top priorities include acquiring literacy intervention materials, purchasing electric buses, and the refurbishment of the Stadium Field House. Several other projects, such as security upgrades and technology enhancements, are also under consideration, pending further evaluation and potential support from the City Council.
