In this episode of Decoding Health, Dr. Stephanie Middaugh shares her expertise on neurodegenerative conditions, discussing the common reasons patients seek assessments and the key signs of neurodegeneration. She emphasizes the importance of collecting information from multiple sources during evaluations to ensure comprehensive care and explains how she develops personalized treatment plans based on these evaluations. Dr. Middaugh covers the effectiveness of prescribed memory medications, therapy options available to patients, and the factors of age and education that can influence treatment. Dr. Middaugh earned her Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in neuropsychology from the Arizona School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University-Phoenix. She completed her post-doctoral training/residency in neuropsychology through the Arizona Training Consortium at Arizona Neuropsychological Services in Chandler, Arizona and pediatric neuropsychology at Southwest Neuropsychology Services. She completed internship at the Bruce W. Carter Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Miami, Florida in 2016 on the geropsychology track with a concentration in neuropsychology. While studying during her graduate and undergraduate programs, Dr. Middaugh also completed training in neurorehabilitation at Rehab Without Walls, assessment and therapy services for geriatric veterans at the Prescott VA, neuropsychological assessment at Neuropsychology Consulting Services, and psychological services for adjudicated youth at Adobe Mountain detention center. ​Dr. Middaugh went on following residency to hold a staff position as a neuropsychologist at Arizona Neuropsychological Services. She later opened her own private practice, Generational Bridges Neuropsychological Services for a couple of years. Dr. Middaugh has since closed the doors of her private practice and now works full time as a neuropsychologist providing neuropsychological consultations and evaluations in inpatient acute rehabilitation hospitals. Dr. Middaugh is a native of Phoenix, Arizona and enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, son, and daughter.
