The Psychology of Weight Loss: Understanding ADHD's Role
Manage episode 459118753 series 3004928
Understanding the mind is just as important as understanding the body.
In this episode, Lareena Brown, a clinical psychologist, and Caroline Shannon, a dietitian dive deep into the world of ADHD, especially when it comes to weight management and bariatric surgery. They discuss the psychological and nutritional side of ADHD, exploring its symptoms, how it can affect our ability to plan and organize (executive function), and its link to binge eating. They also share practical tips for managing ADHD, including the use of medication, breaking tasks down into smaller steps, and creating a meal plan that works.
Caroline provides valuable insights into the unique nutritional needs of people with ADHD, emphasizing the importance of regular meals, flexible meal planning, and addressing common nutrient deficiencies. Lareena, on the other hand, highlights the power of self-compassion, the role of habits, and how ADHD can interact with other life factors like hormones.
Whether you're living with ADHD yourself or supporting someone who is, this episode offers a fresh perspective on how a multi-faceted approach can significantly improve quality of life.
