1 Patti Truant Anderson: Polling and the Surprising Results Around What People Really Think About the Food System 24:55
Text “Do people even want to know about some of these issues? Because I think some of the meat production concerns, it's kind of like people would rather in some cases, I think some people might not really want to know all the nitty gritty. They don't want to know how the sausage is made. That poses an interesting question and challenge about how you communicate about some of these issues, when maybe there's a resistance among a subset of people who don't want to know more.” - Patti Truant Anderson Today’s episode is the final installment in our special four-part series where we take a deep dive into the food system with experts from the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future. Our guest is Patti Truant Anderson, a senior program officer at the Center and a faculty associate in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Patti’s work focuses on public health risks, environmental challenges tied to food production, and how to communicate these critical issues more effectively. Patti and I explore how polling helps uncover public perceptions around food systems and why the country isn’t as polarized on these issues as we might think. We also talk about the challenge of engaging people who may resist learning about the harsh realities of our food system. This episode is not just about data—it’s about how we can foster a shared understanding and move forward, even in times of deep political division. Changing the human condition, I believe, is a matter of setting priorities - and love is the answer to positive change... Not immediate gratification. Or the weather. And we start today by fasting from grumbling.

×Sometimes... those golden handcuffs that many wear around their wrists are simply there to cut off circulation. Job, roommate, city living... In Dust, I put together experiences and thoughts into a fictional tale of getting away from the BS that is working in menial tasks, with people who just don't give a crap about anything. Escape while you bloody well can!…
Isn't it odd that in our current social-politico-racial climate that we put ourselves and others into boxes? Have you ever wondered where that thought came from? While certainly these things have BEEN forever, but the extremes of these things really ramped up with the ideas of marketing for power. And thanks to social media turning every little thing into a means of happily exploring our inner neurosis we have a world on fire for no good reason other than we have lost the ideals of truth and have come to recognize feelings as facts. Sad (see - that's a friggin' feeling)…
Before you can even set foot into purchasing a crap load of information on how to be successful, you need to assess what that means to YOU. And the first step should always be...
When we compare our lives to someone else or if we compare another person to someone else, we miss out on a lot of things.
Don't you get sick and tired of people of who don't have what you have doing things? Getting somewhere? Making an impact? I thought so. Me too!
Yeah... I'm one of those voters. I'm the one who is said to have a vote that either doesn't count or goes against the guy who needs to win. I am the guy who wants freedom, above every other piece of candy coming out of a White (House) Van. One of those people who realizes that voting locally is more important than voting for the president, though realizing that voting for the country's top cheerleader is certainly a great moment for all of us - like a high school drama! By the way, I sleep very soundly.…
My life, in many ways, can be summarized by the statement "Get out and hang!" When was the last time, you felt a need to follow serendipity? What were the results?
The idea of practicing making things perfect us incorrect. According Dr. Don Sheffield, Ed.D. the key to excellence is understanding how people (children) learn, in order to get a true measure of how a child performs. That knowledge can change the course of a child's success.
Dog person? Cat person? It doesn't really matter, I guess. Y'know pets similar to people can become part of the family. Dogs seem to have a knack for becoming one of the biggest concerns during the day. My dog Madison eats better than we do, and probably gets more regular exercise... and lovin'! Lots and lots of that. And to think, she was considered unadoptable!…
Inspired by my daughter. What makes you confident?
Fasting from highly addictive good stuff is dumb, but from bad stuff - good, right? Duh. We are more than the boxes we associate with.

So I think I succeeded at not complaining... I guess. Today's challenge - not being judgemental.
