Masculine & Feminine Rules
- Ends in a

- Exceptions: -Nouns ending in -a, -ción,-sión, -ía, -za, -itis, or -dad are usually feminine:
- Ends in o

- Exceptions: Nouns ending in -o, an accented vowel, -or, or -aje are usually masculine. Nouns of Greek origin ending in -a, often -ma, are nearly always masculine.

When to use “the”
- Use when "the" is used in English
- Use when "the" is NOT used BUT we are talking in general when talking about people, animals and things in a general way

- “La gingivitis es una enfermedad”= “Gingivitis is a disease that..”
- “Tienes gingivitis”= “You have gingivitis.”
When talking about parts of the body-you do not use “my”, “your”, “his” and so on as you would in English.

- Tu (tuh) & vos (bohs) is an informal way of saying “you”
- Usted (oos-tehd) is formal way of saying “you”
- Su (soo) is a formal way of saying “your”

- Completely= Completamente (kohm-pleh-tah-mehn-teh)
- Large/Big= Grande (grahn-deh)
Swallow in Spanish
- “Traga” is an aggressive term and should be avoided
- Instead use, “Pass your saliva, please.” = “Pase su saliva, porfavor.”
