To Live and Die In LA
Manage episode 363937706 series 3266947
Welcome back to the Record Report!
This week, we're gonna take you back to 1996 with Tupac's first posthumous album The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory.
When this album dropped, it was a very confusing point in time for the music world. It dropped two months after Tupac's death, and it wasn't even with his actual stage name. This was the first (and last) album under the moniker Makaveli, and for many fans, The Don Killuminati started the spreading of rumors that speculated Tupac was alive. However, the project had gems like "Hail Mary" and also began the rapper's musical run in his afterlife.
In this episode, we choose our top three tracks, talk about the history surrounding the sound and message of the project, and kind of figure out why this album still resonates to this day for many rap fans young and old.
We also talk about the album within the scope of "Dear Mama" and mention what we've been listening to lately.
