In the case of United States v. Combs (24-CR-542), Judge Arun Subramanian addressed Sean Combs' motion filed on October 20, 2024, seeking to prohibit prospective witnesses and their attorneys from making extrajudicial statements that could potentially interfere with his right to a fair trial. Combs specified that this category included "all those who claim to be victims." The government opposed this request, arguing that such a gag order was "extraordinary and beyond the purview" of Local Rule 23.1.
After considering the arguments, Judge Subramanian denied Combs' motion. The court concluded that imposing a gag order on alleged victims and their attorneys was not justified under the circumstances and fell outside the scope of Local Rule 23.1. This decision allows prospective witnesses and their legal representatives to continue making public statements, provided they do not violate existing legal standards or court orders.
