Based in Tkarón:to, she identifies as a queer, cis-gendered female, and colonial settler. Her creative practice centres around storytelling with an emphasis on using improvisational techniques to arrive at a product. Bri has furthered her training in Ottawa, Greece, New York City, North Carolina, and Los Angeles. During her BFA studies, she had the opportunity to train and work with mentors such as Kate Hillard, Hanna Kiel, Alysa Pires, Hassan El-Amin, and Louis Laberge-Côte. She continues to be a freelance artist for multiple dance/theatre collectives around Ontario.

In this episode:

-the importance of giving yourself space to rest without feeling like you’re taking anything away from your ‘hustle’

-her recent trips to Montreal and New York; how she was inspired by the art, shows and classes and how that translated into movement

-her first experience working as a producer on ‘Phantasmagoria’ for the Toronto Fringe Festival ; what the process was like for her and what she learned

-what she gained from her competitive dance training growing up and why she felt disconnected from that world once she graduated

-navigating the dance spaces throughout her training and professional career and how she dealt with self-talk, body image and self-confidence

-the work she’s done to shift her self-talk to become more loving and accepting

-creating body-positive spaces that are welcoming and accepting

-normalizing talking about body dysmorphia and disordered eating

-why she started her her podcast (Art)versations: a meditative conversation about the way artists think and their lifestyle; how it’s evolved and where she sees it going

-working with Trancsen|Dance Project and what it’s like to perform in an immersive dance company
