My guest today is Dee Gautham. Dee is the owner of Dee Gautham Fitness and is a NASM certified personal trainer. She’s also the founder of the Boss Body Method of coaching to help busy, professional women get into their best shape ever – both physically and mentally.

Dee spent her early career working in Silicon Valley in the software industry. She eventually quit her 9-5 job to be a freelance coach and now she runs her own company with a team of coaches. As a freelancer, Dee went through times of working from home and setting her own schedule, so she’s pulling from her personal experience as well as the experience of her clients. She went through times when she was working with large groups of people, and then the pendulum would swing in the opposite direction.

She got to a point where she felt very lonely and her mental health started to deteriorate as a result. But Dee was able to find ways to combat the feelings of isolation and loneliness.

Given the state of the world right now and how it’s impacting work for so many people, our conversation was very timely. Even if you’re a work-from-home veteran, Dee has a lot of valuable information that will improve your work-from-home experience. And if you’ve suddenly been thrust into a situation where you’re working from home unexpectedly, it’s even more pertinent.

Dee and I first met on Instagram, where she posts great tips on how to level up your health, wellness, and nutrition, as well as your mental health. I highly suggest you check her out after you listen to this episode.

“I think this is a time, more than ever, to be there for each other; make the connections.”

In this episode Avani and Dee talk about:

  • Getting out of a sedentary lifestyle and remaining active while staying at home.
  • How to combat loneliness to keep yourself sane and stay mentally healthy.
  • The importance of boundaries for both your work and personal life.
Main Takeaways
  • When working from home, it’s easy to fall into sedentary patterns. Make sure you’re able to get some fresh air. Stay physical by taking walks or doing home workouts, and make sure to keep up on your nutrition by eating well-balanced meals and drinking plenty of water.
  • Not only do you want to keep up on your physical health, but your mental health as well. It’s easy to get lonely when working in isolation. To cope with this, establish a two-way connection with people instead of just scrolling through social media.
  • If you find yourself absorbing negative energies from social media or the news, it’s a good idea to set boundaries for yourself. Only allow yourself to consume a certain amount, and give yourself a time limit on how long you spend on apps.
  • Just like you have boundaries for what you consume, have boundaries for your workday. Have a schedule blocked off with what business you want to get done in certain time blocks. It’s also smart to set a specific time to start and end work for the day.
