Within informal settlements, “shacks,” are generally built poorly out of tin and other materials. There is often limited sanitation, plumbing and electricity. So, what is the relevance of the NZCB programme to these communities and others within the lower-end of the property market? Most importantly, how can the custodians and champions of the programme ensure that net zero carbon building includes and embraces informality and low income households?
