Gingersnaps are cookies made with brown sugar, and an assortment of spices like cloves, ginger, and cinnamon. They are the perfect accompaniment to a lightly brewed cup of tea. they are known as ‘ginger nut’ in Australia, New Zealand and in the United Kingdom because of how tough they are and how slow they are to disintegrate in tea...of course in America, we call them gingersnaps. Ginger has been around since 500 bc when it was used as medicine in Ancient China and India. gingersnaps were invented by German monks around 1296, using the word "snappen" as the description of the delicious treat...and then they didn't seem to be available again until the early 1800s, where records indicate Dutch colonists were making them regularly.
