Colonel Mahakian served in World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War.
Between wars, he received a BA degree from the University of Southern California. He worked in radio, television broadcasting and motion pictures as a post production coordinator, film editor and sound editor. His credits spanned television series such as The Odd Couple, The Brady Bunch as well as several others, to major films such as Rebel Without a Cause, The World's Greatest Sinner, The Manchurian Candidate, and West Side Story. He won a Golden Reel Award and two Emmy.
