Tokuichi “Dick” Mine

Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t not tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.

Do you know who this fellow is? He’s Japanese singer Tokuichi Mine (MEE-nay) who went by the name “Dick Mine.” He made his first recordings in 1934 and his last in 1982. You’ll hear three of them in the first segment of this week’s show. One is an instrumental with Mine playing steel guitar (!) and two vocals, one sung in Japanese and the other in English. We’ll also be celebrating the birthdays of pianist Art Tatum and “The Silver-Masked Tenor,” Joseph M. White. We’ll also have another edition of “One Thing In Common” and end the show by doing the twist! There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era.
