Ah, combining sales and music... every musician's dream!

The Law of Averages is a mathematical principle that states that general statistics will make themselves true given enough data. Think about it this way: the odds of flipping a coin and getting "heads" is 50%. If you flip a coin 10 times, it is fairly likely that you will not get 5 heads results, even though the statistics say that the results should be 50/50. If you flip a coin 1,000,000 times, it is VERY likely that your results will be close to 50/50.

This same mathematical principle can be applied to music and your chances of "success" with any given song, album, music video, etc. Of course the odds that your music will break through the noise and reach millions of ears are pretty darn low. Not only are there tens of thousands of songs being released to the world every single day, but you also likely do not have the marketing budget of a large artist or record label that gives you a better chance of "hitting it big". Any one of your songs will probably not be a hit. But, if you release 100 songs (over the course of years, of course), and you can get that music in front of the ears of people who will probably enjoy it, then your odds will go way up. The same principle applies to songwriting: you are far more likely to release 10 "nothing but bangers" if you write 100 songs / ideas vs. 20.

Of course I am not promoting quantity over quality. I am recommending that you explore your creativity to the fullest and do not get too hung up on your streaming numbers. Plan to allow that creativity to flow for a long, long time, even if the big numbers and money do not come along as soon as you would prefer. Spoiler alert: you may never make much money at all. But, if you're making music because you think you're going to be a millionaire.... good luck.

Create the music you want to create, and do it a lot! Release regularly without worries of what you think will be a hit. If your art makes you feel excited, then put it out to the world. If you do this with enough songs over enough time, then you will have incredible feedback that you could have never fully prepared yourself to receive.
