Former LSU Tiger Paul Skenes was a massive part of the Tigers' 2023 National Championship run as the most dominant pitcher in all of college baseball. He ended up being the number one overall pick in the Major League Baseball Draft to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now, the Pirates get to see some return on their first overall pick investment. After less than a year and twelve starts in the Minor Leagues, Skenes got the call up to Pittsburgh to make his very first MLB start against the Chicago Cubs at PNC Park on Saturday. Skenes went just over four innings notching seven strikeouts and three earned runs on 84 pitches. Of those 84 pitches, 17 of them were 100 MPH or faster. While Skenes' debut wasn't perfect, he proved to be with the massive amounts of hype his debut received.
