This time we’re joined by Tom Dager. He is the Chief Information Security Officer at Archer Daniels Midland, and oversees all things cybersecurity across the organization. Archer Daniels Midland is a Fortune 50 company with offices all over the world. Tom's team includes over 100+ members in office and virtual.

It can be challenging to move from a non-leverage role into a space where you need to use leverage like Tom has. Now, he couldn’t imagine operating in his work without using leverage to his benefit. Easing into using it in both his professional and personal life has made the transition easier.

In his organization, Tom leverages hundreds of people—many of them working virtually. Leverage, especially virtual leverage, will permeate the workspace now forever. It takes focused, intentional effort and team communication to build the company culture across team members.

No matter who the individual is, giving them kudos and credit is important across the board whether they are in office or elsewhere. Having a core group of individuals is important for his organization, and diversity plays a huge role during the hiring process. Building a good team is an equation, and not everybody gets it right.

In business, we tend to view people as resources to fill a need. At the end of the day, they are still people. Tom emphasizes connecting with these people individually and recognizing the work they do within the organization. Every person is unique—they have different drivers and needs. Knowing those details for each person will open up a world of opportunities.
