Manage episode 297847881 series 2848618
S1-E29 Dr. Theresa Whitney, Ph. D. introduces us to the GO! Model, helping people who are living with panic and anxiety to build a support team.
In her words, “Our goal is to make panic attack prevention and support teams accessible to everyone and reach those most at recovery-ready levels. We aim to reduce preventable panic from anxiety-producing situations; enable rapid access to panic support teams, and facilitate extended access from remote locations.”
Dr. Whitney (Jo as she is happy to be called) has overcome years of agoraphobia when she was unable to leave her house. She has since been able to accomplish many interesting things including fronting multiple bands, providing executive coaching, and creating the GO! Model, which is helping others so they don’t have to be disabled by panic like she was. As Jo is fond of saying, “I went from GED to Ph.D.!”
Providing a means for individuals to build a support team, gain some control and find their voice is what the GO! Model is all about. Jo is certainly a great example of the idea that our past does not dictate our future, as well as many other traits that allow successful people to excel.
Look for her book that is due to be published at the end of 2021. In it, you will learn about her dramatic life story including the many obstacles she has overcome. You will also dive into the five steps of the GO! Model and how it so effectively supports a person in panic.
