The number of monarch butterflies is going down because they are losing their habitats. Changing weather is also putting a strain on migration routes for the monarch butterfly. This means that these bugs can no longer reproduce the way they used to because there are not as many milkweed plants in their habitats as there used to be. n Monarch butterfly conservation needs to be a priority of environmental groups to protect from extinction.
