The UN Security Council this week adopted a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip during Ramadan and the immediate release of all hostages. This is the first time for the Council to adopt such a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip since the Hamas October 7 attack last year. But the U.S., which abstained, has already called the resolution “unbinding,” a move that is undermining the resolution as well as the UN. Will the resolution have any impact on stopping the violence? What will happen if Israel refuses to comply with the resolution? Will the U.S. continue to supply weapons to Israel in its offensives on Gaza?
