The SoulFire Project: A Guitar and a Full Tank of Gas
Manage episode 411999566 series 3484609
If you’ve ever had a dream that doesn’t fit the typical dream, this is the episode to listen to. Join us on a beach in Baja, where we sit down with Copper right after The SoulFire Project set us all afire with their light and soul!
In 30 minutes you’ll be inspired to ditch everything you don't need and follow everything you’ve always wanted to do. This is Cooper's story and how he turned his dreams into a reality. But more than that, it might just be your inspiration to do the same.
Meet The SoulFire Project
The SoulFire Project is exactly that - a project - envisioned from a dream that combined travel and artistic endeavors that turned into a reality of global musicians traveling the Americas in a 1979 converted school bus. And just like this isn't any band, this bus isn't just any bus. It's as much of a piece of art and culture as the music is. Running off of vegetable oil and powered by solar, the iconic and highly recognizable bus is a home just as much as it is a creative space.
But it is also a way for the entire team to live sustainably, from the fuel used in the bus to the food they eat, to the waste expended. As Cooper says, “It's important for us as responsible human beings to live in the most sustainable way that we can, and now we’re doing this nomadically.”
Gaining experience and perspective all along their journeys, The SoulFire Project embraces inspiring musical styles. Taking inspiration both from the music and the musicians, their genre is a Mestizo World Fusion of styles the likes of Cumbia, Reggae, Afro-Latin, and more.
Meet Cooper Morgan, Instigator of The SoulFire Project
And it all began with a two month trip.
Cooper Morgan, the self-defined instigator and creative force behind The SoulFire Project, is the songwriter, the vocalist, guitarist, and sometimes even a percussionist. He's also the mechanic and aspiring engineer of sorts to setup and maintain the bus they all live and travel in.
That two month trip turned into 11 months and then into a future born from a dream, from travels, and from artists met along the way.
With a guitar and a full tank of gas, Cooper realized he had everything he needed to create a life he loved.
