#249 - An Old Dog Learning New Tricks

Business Side of Music

Performing since the age of 9, singer/songwriter/performer Doug Robertson knows a thing or two on how to craft a song. He learned at a very young age writing songs by taking a Beatles tune, and changing the lyrics, or vice versa, keeping the lyrics, and changing the song, to get a better grasp as to how a piece of music was structured. That experimentation helped develop his songwriting skills. As an adult, he fed his career by performing in Reno Nevada at local sandwich shops, and even wrote a commercial jingle for Schlotzsky's Sandwiches.

Now residing in Nashville TN, Doug continues to write, record, and perform, but along his journey, has learned that an old dog must continue to learn new tricks, and adjust in one’s application of their career, in order to have continued success. Robertson shares his work ethic, what he’s learned on his musical path, and the epiphanies he’s discovered along the way.
