In Rugby League: Reece Walsh has reportedly shaken hands on a contract extension with the Broncos, ending the star fullback’s contract saga, which has dragged on for 12 months.
It’s a coup for the Broncos to pull it off before the November 1 deadline that would have allowed rival Clubs to begin negotiating with Walsh.
As first reported by The Courier Mail, Walsh has signed with the Broncos through to the end of the 2029 season.
Heading into the 2025 season on A$600,000, Walsh’s new deal will be worth A$4.4Million across the following four years.
It makes Walsh the highest-paid player in the history of the Broncos — but the livewire 22-year-old could easily have got more.
“It’s a steal. It’s an absolute steal. If he stays on the field,” NRL legend Andrew Johns said.
Fellow NRL legend Brad Fittler also said: “From the Broncos’ point of view, it’s a bargain. Imagine how many Clubs out there would love to have Reece Walsh.”
In Netball: England star Helen Housby put on a “monster” performance with 29 goals from 33 shots plus 10 goal assists, combined with Liv Tchine who was deadly with 32 goals from 34 attempts, for England to claim only their third-ever win over Australia, in Australia, in Sydney yesterday.
Despite winning only one quarter of the thriller, the Roses snared a 61-59 win to ensure the series heads into a deciding Test in Bendigo on Wednesday night.
In WNBA Sports Biz: Indiana Fever are the underdogs against the Connecticut Sun in the first round of the WNBA finals play-offs, so Rookie of the Year, Caitlin Clark could very well be out of the playoffs after just two or three games.
That scenario would be the true showcase of Clark’s effect on viewership.
The WNBA should ultimately be satisfied with the playoff viewership results it will register for this unprecedented season.
But for those clamoring for ways to measure Clark’s impact on the WNBA, this postseason could serve as the proper barometer.
