Kia ora, Talofa, Ma’lelei, Bula and Welcome to Season 09 Episode 03 of Breakfast Bites, by TEIVOVOdigital.com – a wrap of Pasifika people’s sports news, on a sunny and bright Wednesday morning 03 April 2024.
Coming to you with tons of hanisi from the 180th meridian in the middle of the Blue Continent.
In rugby: Looks like the Wallabies rebuild under Kiwi Coach Joe Schmidt is starting off-field with renowned fellow Kiwi scrum doctor Mike Cron joining the Wallabies coaching staff.
Cron will bring a wealth of experience to Australia’s set-up, having been an All Blacks assistant coach for more than 200 Tests.
“Mike has added tremendous value in every program he has been involved with and brings a wealth of knowledge to our coaching group,” Wallabies Head Coach Schmidt said.
In football: The German Football Association (DFB) will change the typeface used on its shirts after one of the numbers “44” on its kit drew comparisons to the “Nazi SS” symbol.
The football association said in a statement: “None of the parties involved saw any proximity to Nazi symbolism in the creation process.”
The DFB caused a stir last month when it announced that it would be replacing ADIDAS as its kit provider from 2027.
The German outfitter, which has supplied the national team since the 1950s, will make way for US sportswear giant Nike.
In boxing: After advice from their lawyer, Sebastian Fundora’s camp now says it will honour a rematch agreement with Tim Tszyu despite initially suggesting the Australian would be made to wait for another crack at the new super middleweight champion.
But exactly who Tszyu fights next remains uncertain after the popular Australian poster boy lost his WBO Super Welterweight crown to Fundora in Las Vegas last weekend.
In rugby league: NRL Round 05: The Tigers are reportedly set to hand young gun Latu Fainu his NRL debut, replacing rookie sensation Lachie Galvin.
Broncos star Reece Walsh is training in headgear as the fullback readies for an earlier-than-expected return from a facial fracture.
The Storm, meanwhile, are set to welcome back star five-eighth Cameron Munster from injury and Jahrome Hughes from suspension for their clash with the Broncos tomorrow night at AAMI Park.
Meanwhile, a concussion to Josh Addo-Carr will see the Foxx miss the clash with the Sydney Roosters and star Bunnies Wing Alex Johnston is set for an extended stint on the sideline.
Finally in the USA: Remember the name Caitlin Clark.
The 22-year-old, who has already rewritten the college basketball record books, took another step to greatness yesterday with a blistering performance to lead Iowa to the Final Four of the NCAA tournament.
In a blockbuster rematch of last year’s NCAA championship game, the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated the LSU Tigers 87-94 in a thrilling match-up in Albany, New York.
Clark scored nearly half her team’s tally, finishing with 41 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds and nine three-pointers
For the first time in NCAA history, both the men’s and women’s teams for two schools have made their respective Final Fours: UConn and NC State.
Iowa’s victory keeps the Caitlin Clark train alive into another Final Four.
And that’s a wrap!
