In this episode, we delve into the concept of being "qualified" in the workplace, examining who gets labeled as such, who doesn't, and the underlying reasons. We explore "competency checking"—the practice of scrutinizing individuals' abilities—and how it disproportionately affects underrepresented groups, often going unnoticed or unchallenged. Our discussion aims to redefine qualifications in a fair, equitable, and actionable manner. Our guest, Shari Dunn , is an accomplished journalist, former attorney, news anchor, CEO, university professor, and sought-after speaker. She has been recognized as Executive of the Year and a Woman of Influence, with her work appearing in Fortune Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Ad Age, and more. Her new book, Qualified: How Competency Checking and Race Collide at Work , unpacks what it truly means to be deserving and capable—and why systemic barriers, not personal deficits, are often the real problem. Her insights challenge the narratives that hold so many of us back and offer practical solutions for building a more equitable future. Together, we can build workplaces and communities that don’t just reflect the world we live in, but the one we want to create. A world where being qualified is about recognizing the talent and potential that’s been overlooked for far too long. It’s not just about getting a seat at the table—it’s about building an entirely new table, one designed with space for all of us. A simple podcast where fellow brothers and sisters in Christ engage in biblical discussion and understand the books of the Bible from the author's perspective. Also creates content centered around discourse on culture, modern-day societal problems, and talking about Jesus. We just wanna talk Bible.

In this episode Nathan and I go into the second section of James chapter 3 where James addresses true wisdom. He compares the worldly form of wisdom and the characteristics of true wisdom. In this episode Nathan and I explore the power that the tongue has in our daily life and how it can have a negative effect in our spiritual life. James presents this word first to the teachers of the Bible and the impact that their teaching has over the people. The need for the spirit to lead our tongue is evident in this passage of scripture. Shared Blessings Ministry Page: https://www.sharedblessings.org/ In this blessing of an episode I was able to interview Sol and Manuela Bah who operate a non-profit (Shared Blessings) Christian School in the Gambia. If you do not know the Gambia is a small country located in West Africa sandwiched in the middle of Senegal. I have been lucky enough to visit on a short-term mission at the School that Sol and Manuela operate. During the course of this episode we talk about each of their testimonies from coming to Christ, the process of starting up the school that God gave vision for, and the future of the school and how this school will impact the country of the Gambia. *Disclaimer* This Chapter in James talks about the works that Faith calls us out to do. In no way do Nathan or I believe that you are justified by works. As is obvious by the teachings of Jesus we are justified by faith and faith alone. Along with that God prepares for you good works, this is the perspective that Nathan and I come from when reading this convicting chapter in James. In this episode, we talk about James 2:14-26. James explains how faith and works are inseparable. Nathan and I focus on the fact that God calls you into works when Faith is conceived in you. In this portion, many people believe that Paul and James fundamentally disagree by reading into the chapter without context, but it is simply not true. Nathan and I discuss how James further refines Paul's explanation of justification by faith. I hope you enjoy this episode and dig into scripture after listening and come up with your own conclusions as well. In this episode, we go into James chapter 2:1-13. James confronts the early church in Jerusalem about showing favoritism to people of wealthy standing and ignoring the poor. James gives a convicting address to all Christians about how important it is to be with one another without preconceived notions about the value of our brothers and sisters in Christ. As we dive in we find many interesting similarities between the Western Church and the early Church in Jerusalem. Hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did recording it! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100092499892645&sk=grid or talkingbiblepodcast@gmail.com What the Talking Bible Podcast is about: This Podcast was created to talk about the Bible from a layman's perspective. In this episode Nathan and I go through the last chapter of the book of Jonah. In this episode Nathan and I talk about Jonah and the sermon that he gives to the people of Nineveh in chapter 3. This particular chapter is very interesting because you start to see Jonah slip back into his carnal nature. Being submitted to doing what God had asked of him he goes and gives Nineveh the word and they repent. This was a fun episode to record and we cannot wait to keep on producing content for y'all! https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100092499892645&sk=grid or talkingbiblepodcast@gmail.com What the Talking Bible podcast is about: This Podcast was created to talk about the bible from a layman's perspective.
