According to a 2018 publication by CanFASD, the rate of FASD in Canada is 4% which is approximately 1,485,158 Canadians in a country with about 37 million people. South Africa's population is approximately 58 million people and yet the nation has such a mammoth rate. I sit down with a South African friend who works in the area of human services to understand this issue and she shares some of the key influences of the alarming high rates in South Africa.
