Campbell Coe was a legend around Berkeley, having graduated from UC in the mid-fifties. He was a musician, luthier, raconteur supreme, journalist, photographer, the list goes on. For some reason, he let me hang around his cluttered little shop down a narrow alley of Haste St. just above Telegraph Avenue, where I would listen to him tell stories and banter with friends and customers who dropped by for hours a few a times a week. Decades away now, I wonder what he thought of me. I was eighteen or nineteen. I guess he liked me.
He was definitely a man of that time and era in Berkeley, as in only-in-Berkeley.
