Episode 53 w/ KING part 2!!

Please welcome Antonio Leroy King, aka "King!"

King currently plays Barry Belson, Hal Miller (and others) AND understudies Bob Crewe on the current National Tour of Jersey Boys!

King is the first Black man to play Bob Crewe on the National Tour. We believe King is the first Black man to play Bob Crewe in a Dodgers production in United States ever!

This episode was so amazing that we needed to make it a two-parter!

In part 2 follow us as we deep-dive into:

-How his first performance as Bob Crewe went!

-How hiring dressers works on a tour (Did you know there are different dressers at every theatre?)

-How he advocated for his own wig for JERSEY BOYS

-How he shoulders the pride and responsibility he feels as the only Black person in the cast

And much, much more!

A’ Salud♥️🍷

Sam L. Williams, host of the Millennial Throwback Machine podcast, is committed to finding the unsung heroes behind classic American records: the studio musicians, arrangers, sound engineers, and more, who never got credit for their work. Sam and Gia met at the Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons start ceremony at the Hollywood Walk of Fame! In this episode, Sam joins us from his home in sunny California to give us names of musicians who helped define the sound of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons in the 60s, based on two sources: Studio Stories- How New York Records Were Made. A book by David Simons His interview with Charlie Calello! Some musicians include: ● George Devins, percussionist ● Al Gorgoni, guitar ● Buddy Saltzman, drums ● Lou Morrow, bass ● Stan Free, keyboard ● Charlie Mason, lyricist For all our music theory cats, we also broke down every instrument in “Let’s Hang On,” the original Four Seasons record and a cover by The Manhattan Transfer (with Frankie Valli on vocals). Sam is a singer-songwriter and arranger himself, and we discussed how The Four Seasons influenced his music. Today, we're breaking down our friend Aaron De Jesus's heartbreaking performance as Frankie Valli, with his interpretation of the "summers in Jersey" monologue. This performance really resonated with us! Things to look out for: -His reactions to the phone rings -The amount of time he sits with the news of Francine's passing -The subtle overcast of the weight of the world on his shoulders while he speaks during a potentially peaceful and happy moment in his life Keep a lookout for tickets for Tuacahn Center of the Arts's production of Jersey Boys, directed by Aaron De Jesus and choreographed by his fellow Jersey Boys legend, Candi Boyd! We're doubly excited to announce that Aaron honored us with the task of creating a dramaturgy packet for this production. We had a blast creating it! We love you, our friend! Enjoy! A' Salud♥️🍷…

Find out how Tom: -Learned the show and the Four Seasons catalog back and front after seeing JB in London with John Lloyd Young -Nailed his most taxing role as Dewey in a production of #SchoolOfRock (Major niche music convo here!) -Made himself more employable with his international concerts, including “Live at Frankie’s: The Songs of Valli and Sinatra” -Helped create 40+ full-time jobs after a year and a half of no work for Australian artists -Informed his new portrayal of Tommy DeVito from the director’s chair *Listen to this episode for the top 5 changes in professional production. Get an EXCLUSIVE look at their early artwork!* Key Thomas quotes: “It’s not how many hours you warm up. It’s getting out of your head.” “Put everything you have into everything you do...because you never know who’s watching. A small project [of JB] turned into a full-time job.” (Paraphrased) EXTRA FANDOM ALERT: Listen for our thoughts on in-between moments in Jersey Boys. For example, when Bob Crewe ends up acquiring the money for the Four Seasons demo, what does Tommy do with his money? Is this when he buys apartments to keep his girlfriends in? Is that moment when Tommy starts to break? Please weigh in with us in the comments! A’ Salud! Recorded Dec. 19, 2021…
