About Us Shaumba-Yandje Dibinga
Shaumba-Yandje Masanga Wa Dibinga wa Said is the Founding Artistic Director of the OrigiNation Cultural Arts Center a non-profit that uses dance and the arts, as a tool to empower young people, one dancer at a time. She is also the Owner of ShapeUp with Shaumba, Inc. - an organization whose mission is to utilize dance, fitness, nutrition spoken word and writing to heal communities. She is a Congolese-American and daughter to Rev. Dr. Dibinga wa Said and Dr. Ngolela Dibinga. She has extensive training, teaching and performance experience in all areas of dance and theater. Her studies have taken her to the Alvin Ailey School, the Boston Conservatory and a BA from Umass Boston.
She has been writing poetry and plays for over 30 years. She is currently a trustee at the Boston Renaissance Charter Public School, Boston Arts Academy Board of Trusteee, the BAA Fashion Board and the SummerStars Foundation. She is a member of the Barr Fellows Class of 2011, the Barr Foundation Fellows Alumni Advisory Board, co-lead for the Linde Family Foundation DEAI learning group, Thriving Cultures, and among other groups, a member of the Boston Arts Leader Coalition. She has received numerous awards for her work with OrigiNation, including but not limited too: the Catalyst Award, the CPLAN Family Engagement Award, The Philanthropic Initiative's Boston Fellows Award, the Portraits of Courage Upstander's Award, the Berklee College of Music Urban Service Award, the Community Catalyst Award, the Next Steps Award, the Brother Thomas Fellowship, the NAACP Boston Image Award, the Roxbury Rocks Award, the Malcolm X Award, and the Melnea Cass Service Award. She is also the writer, director and producer of TAFUTA! A Young Child’s Search for the True Meaning or Kwanzaa and Our Story, A Celebration of the African and African American Experience through the Arts. She continues to work with the City of Boston Arts and Culture Department as well as the Mayor Wu’s office, the State, various school systems, institutions and organizations (nationally and internationally), including Celebrity Series of Boston, Converse, Boston While Black and BAMS Fest, to uplift the Arts along with the physical and mental health of those she serves. Ms. Dibinga is the mother of Taalib-Said and Shaumba-Subira, the author of the poetry book Pride in My Stride, a certified Inferno Hot Pilates Instructor, artist and the Creator of Hot Body Fusion.
