December begins with an outpouring of compassion, as Neptune turns direct on the 3rd. After several months of Neptune retrograde, where we turned our compassion inward, it’s now time to give back to the world again.

Mercury and Venus both move into ambitious Capricorn, on December 6th and 9th respectively, prompting some serious thinking and a true sense of commitment. Sandwiched between these planetary shifts, however, is a capricious Gemini Full Moon on the 7th. With this lunation conjunct Mars retrograde, there could be considerable anger if someone doesn’t take something seriously.

Astrologically, mid-December is a quiet period, good for getting on with work and everyday tasks ahead of the festivities. The festive period truly kicks off on December 20th when joyful Jupiter re-enters bold Aries, where it will now stay until May 2023. This is a huge upsurge of confident, pioneering energy that never says no to a party!

The following day, at the December Solstice, as every year, the Sun enters Capricorn. The Capricorn New Moon on December 23rd is quietly ambitious and full of determination; it’s a good time to start thinking about New Year’s resolutions and making strategic decisions for the year ahead.

As the festivities fade, Mercury turns retrograde in Capricorn on December 29th.
